This Master study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for graduates and professionals who seek to deepen their expertise in development studies within the broader field of social sciences. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 7 and aligned with the Second European Cycle, the program represents an advanced academic framework equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.
The Master in Social Sciences (Development) focuses on critical analysis of social, economic, and institutional transformation processes at local, national, and global levels. It equips participants with the theoretical foundations and research competencies necessary to understand sustainable development, public policy, governance systems, social innovation, inequality, and community development dynamics.
With a duration of +12 months (including a defined minimum study period and flexible extension options), the program enables learners to engage in rigorous academic research while balancing professional commitments.
The academic structure consists of five modules:
Two research-focused modules dedicated to advanced research methodology, data analysis, academic writing, and policy-oriented research frameworks.
Two general modules that strengthen interdisciplinary thinking, analytical reasoning, and academic communication within the social sciences.
One specialized module in development studies, addressing themes such as sustainable development strategies, economic and social policy, institutional reform, global development challenges, and impact assessment.
In addition to the structured modules, the program includes thesis and research activities that require students to conduct independent research and produce an original academic contribution within the field of development studies. Emphasis is placed on analytical rigor, evidence-based reasoning, and the capacity to link theory with practical development challenges.
This Master study program is particularly suitable for professionals working in governmental institutions, international organizations, NGOs, policy research centers, and development agencies, as well as for those aiming to pursue further academic research in the social sciences.
