This Master study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for professionals who seek to address mental health challenges from a global public health perspective. The Master in Public Health – Global Mental Health is academically positioned at a level equal to EQF Level 7 and aligned with the second cycle of the European Higher Education framework, equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.
Mental health has become one of the most urgent global health priorities of the 21st century. Rising rates of anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, social displacement, and post-crisis psychological stress have demonstrated that mental health is not only a clinical issue but also a public health and policy concern. This program focuses on developing advanced research competence and strategic insight to design, evaluate, and improve mental health systems across diverse cultural, economic, and institutional contexts.
The academic structure consists of five modules that ensure methodological depth and global relevance. Two modules are dedicated to research methodology and advanced research design, equipping participants with strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, epidemiological analysis capabilities, and critical evaluation tools necessary for mental health research. Two general modules strengthen foundations in public health systems, global health governance, ethics, health policy analysis, and evidence-based decision-making. One specialized module focuses directly on Global Mental Health, addressing cross-cultural psychiatry, mental health epidemiology, community-based interventions, health equity, humanitarian mental health response, stigma reduction, and policy development.
The program culminates in a thesis and structured research activities, where participants conduct an in-depth investigation into a relevant global mental health challenge. Through this research-driven approach, candidates contribute analytical insight and practical recommendations aimed at strengthening mental health frameworks, expanding access to care, and supporting sustainable health system reforms.
With a minimum duration of 12 months and flexibility for extension, the program is structured to support working professionals including public health practitioners, psychologists, social policy advisors, NGO leaders, healthcare administrators, and international development specialists. The flexible model allows participants to integrate academic advancement with ongoing professional commitments.
Graduates of this Master study program are prepared to work in ministries of health, international organizations, non-governmental agencies, research institutions, community health networks, and global policy environments. They develop the capacity to analyze mental health trends, design preventive strategies, evaluate interventions, and contribute to international mental health advocacy and reform.
The Master in Public Health – Global Mental Health represents a research-centered academic journey dedicated to improving psychological well-being at population level and advancing equitable mental health systems worldwide.
