This Master study program is a fully research-based academic pathway designed for legal professionals, maritime executives, policy specialists, and scholars seeking advanced expertise in international maritime law and global shipping regulations. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 7 and aligned with the 2nd European cycle, the program emphasizes analytical depth, comparative legal research, and critical evaluation of maritime governance frameworks.
With a total academic workload equivalent to 60 ECTS and a minimum duration of 12 months (with flexible extension options), the program is structured to support working professionals who aim to deepen their specialization in maritime legal systems while maintaining their professional responsibilities.
The academic structure consists of five integrated modules, including:
Two research-focused modules that develop advanced competencies in legal research methodology, comparative law analysis, international case study evaluation, and academic legal writing.
Two general modules addressing international trade systems, global regulatory compliance, risk management, and the intersection of maritime operations with commercial and environmental law.
One specialized module in Maritime Law, covering international conventions and treaties, carriage of goods by sea, marine insurance law, admiralty law, ship registration and flag state jurisdiction, maritime dispute resolution, port state control, environmental maritime regulations, and emerging legal challenges in digital shipping and maritime cybersecurity.
The program concludes with comprehensive thesis and research activities, enabling participants to explore contemporary legal challenges such as maritime boundary disputes, climate and environmental compliance, sanctions and trade restrictions, piracy and maritime security law, arbitration in shipping contracts, and evolving regulatory frameworks for autonomous vessels.
Graduates of this Master study program are prepared to contribute to law firms, shipping companies, maritime regulatory authorities, insurance institutions, international trade organizations, port authorities, and arbitration bodies. The research-intensive design ensures that participants not only understand complex maritime legal structures but also generate evidence-based legal insights that support sustainable and compliant maritime governance worldwide.
