This Master study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for graduates who wish to explore the classical and medieval periods of Islamic history through rigorous scholarly investigation. Positioned at a level equivalent to EQF Level 7 and aligned with the second European cycle, the program corresponds to 60 ECTS credits and reflects advanced academic standards in historical research and analysis.
The program provides an in-depth examination of the political, intellectual, social, economic, and cultural developments of the Islamic world from its formative centuries through the medieval era. Students critically engage with primary historical sources, historiographical debates, and methodological approaches used in the study of Islamic civilizations across different regions.
The academic structure includes five modules:
Two research-focused modules dedicated to advanced research methodology, historiography, source criticism, and academic writing.
Two general modules aimed at strengthening interdisciplinary knowledge, analytical reasoning, and contextual historical interpretation.
One specialized module focused specifically on Classical and Medieval Islamic History, covering major dynasties, institutions, intellectual movements, trade networks, governance systems, and cross-cultural interactions.
