This Master study program in Illustration is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for illustrators and visual storytellers who aim to deepen their conceptual thinking, theoretical understanding, and research capacity within the field of illustration. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 7, the program corresponds to the Second European Cycle and carries a workload equivalent to 60 ECTS, aligned with international academic standards.
The program explores illustration as both an artistic discipline and a form of visual communication. It examines narrative image-making, editorial and publishing illustration, digital and traditional techniques, character development, visual storytelling, and the cultural and social impact of illustrated media. Emphasis is placed on research-driven creative practice, critical analysis, and innovation in contemporary illustration.
The academic structure consists of five modules, including:
Two research-focused modules dedicated to advanced research methodology, visual inquiry, academic writing, and analytical frameworks in creative studies.
Two general modules strengthening critical thinking, interdisciplinary perspectives, and contextual cultural analysis.
One specialized module in Illustration focusing on advanced narrative strategies, experimental techniques, visual identity, and contemporary illustration practices across print and digital platforms.
The program culminates in a substantial research thesis and structured research activities that demonstrate originality, conceptual depth, and meaningful scholarly contribution to the field of illustration and visual storytelling.
