This Master study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for learners who wish to explore Swiss history, society, governance, culture, and international positioning through advanced analytical and research methods. The program is academically positioned at a level equal to EQF Level 7 and corresponds to the second European cycle, carrying an academic workload equal to 60 ECTS.
The Master study program in History and Swiss Studies provides a structured yet flexible framework for in-depth academic investigation. It combines historical scholarship with interdisciplinary perspectives on Switzerland’s political evolution, neutrality, economic development, federal system, cultural diversity, and global engagement. The program is particularly suitable for professionals, researchers, educators, and policymakers who aim to deepen their understanding of Switzerland within European and global contexts.
The curriculum consists of five carefully structured modules:
Two research-focused modules that strengthen advanced research methodology, academic writing, critical analysis, and scholarly publication skills.
Two general academic modules that enhance theoretical foundations, interdisciplinary thinking, and strategic interpretation of historical developments.
One specialized module dedicated specifically to Swiss history and contextual studies, allowing students to explore thematic areas such as Swiss federalism, neutrality, economic history, diplomacy, multiculturalism, and institutional development.
In addition to the module structure, the program includes thesis and research activities, enabling participants to produce an original research contribution in their chosen area of specialization.
The duration of the program is +12 months. While there is a minimum completion period, students benefit from academic flexibility, allowing them to extend their study timeline according to professional and personal commitments.
