This Master study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for graduates and language professionals who seek advanced scholarly expertise in translation theory, linguistic analysis, intercultural communication, and specialized translation practices. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 7 and aligned with the second European cycle, the program is equivalent to 60 ECTS credits, reflecting rigorous academic and research standards within the European Higher Education Area.
The Master in Translation Studies explores translation as both a linguistic discipline and a cultural, social, and technological practice. It critically examines how meaning is transferred across languages, contexts, and knowledge systems, while addressing contemporary challenges such as globalization, digital communication, audiovisual translation, terminology management, and machine-assisted translation tools.
The structure of the program consists of five modules, carefully designed to balance theoretical depth with research excellence:
Two research-oriented modules focusing on advanced research methodology, academic writing, discourse analysis, and qualitative and quantitative research approaches in translation studies.
Two general academic modules strengthening critical thinking, interdisciplinary perspectives, and global communication frameworks.
One specialized module in Translation Studies covering translation theories, comparative linguistics, intercultural mediation, specialized translation (legal, technical, literary, or media), and emerging translation technologies.
In addition to the modular framework, the program includes a substantial thesis and structured research activities that allow students to conduct independent scholarly research and contribute original insights to the field of translation and intercultural communication.
The minimum duration of the program is 12 months, with flexible study progression that enables students to extend their academic timeline according to professional and personal commitments. This flexibility makes the program particularly suitable for working translators, language educators, communication specialists, and professionals operating in multilingual environments.
Graduates of this Master study program develop advanced competencies in:
Translation theory and applied translation research
Cross-cultural and intercultural communication
Terminology management and linguistic analysis
Digital and technology-assisted translation tools
Academic research and scholarly publication
The Master in Translation Studies is designed for individuals who aspire to deepen their academic understanding of language mediation, contribute to research in translation science, and operate confidently within global, multilingual knowledge networks.
