This Master study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for graduates and professionals seeking advanced knowledge and analytical expertise in geography within the broader framework of social sciences. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 7 and aligned with the Second European Cycle, the program represents an advanced academic structure equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.
The Master in Social Sciences (Geography) focuses on the spatial dimensions of social, economic, environmental, and political processes. It equips participants with the theoretical foundations and methodological tools required to analyze geographic patterns, regional development, urban and rural transformation, environmental change, and spatial planning strategies in a globalized world.
With a duration of +12 months (including a defined minimum study period and flexible extension options), the program provides an academically rigorous yet adaptable structure suitable for both full-time scholars and working professionals.
The academic framework consists of five modules:
Two research-focused modules dedicated to advanced research design, quantitative and qualitative geographic methodologies, spatial data analysis, and academic writing.
Two general modules that strengthen interdisciplinary understanding, critical analysis, and theoretical integration within the social sciences.
One specialized module in geography, addressing themes such as human geography, regional development, environmental geography, spatial policy, geographic information systems (GIS) concepts, and sustainability studies.
In addition to the structured modules, the program includes thesis and research activities requiring students to conduct independent research and produce an original academic contribution in the field of geography. Emphasis is placed on analytical rigor, spatial reasoning, methodological precision, and the ability to connect geographic theory with real-world challenges.
This Master study program is particularly suitable for professionals in urban planning, environmental management, regional development agencies, governmental institutions, research centers, and international organizations, as well as for those aiming to pursue further academic research in geography and social sciences.
