This Master study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for professionals, educators, policymakers, and researchers who seek to deepen their understanding of childhood and youth in contemporary societies. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 7 and aligned with the Second Cycle of the European Higher Education Area, the program carries an academic weight equivalent to 60 ECTS.
The Master in Childhood and Youth Studies explores the social, cultural, psychological, educational, and policy dimensions that shape the lives of children and young people. It encourages critical inquiry into issues such as child development, youth identity, inclusion and diversity, safeguarding, education systems, digital childhoods, youth participation, and global child rights frameworks. Students are guided to analyze childhood and youth not only as developmental stages, but as socially constructed and historically situated phenomena influenced by institutions, media, governance, and economic change.
The structure of the program consists of five modules:
Two research-focused modules that develop advanced competencies in research design, methodology, data analysis, and academic writing.
Two general academic modules that strengthen analytical, theoretical, and interdisciplinary perspectives.
One specialized module dedicated specifically to Childhood and Youth Studies, addressing contemporary debates, theoretical frameworks, and global policy contexts.
In addition to the modular structure, participants engage in independent research and thesis-related academic activities, culminating in an original scholarly contribution to the field.
With a minimum duration of 12 months, the program offers flexibility, allowing students to extend their study period according to their professional and personal commitments. This flexible research-oriented design makes it particularly suitable for working professionals and international learners seeking to combine academic advancement with career development.
Graduates of this Master study program are equipped to contribute to research institutions, educational organizations, NGOs, policy bodies, child protection services, youth development programs, and international organizations concerned with children’s rights and youth empowerment. The program fosters advanced critical thinking, ethical research practice, and interdisciplinary insight—essential qualities for shaping inclusive and evidence-based policies for future generations.
