This doctorate study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for senior professionals, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders who aim to generate original knowledge and shape the future of responsible tourism worldwide. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 8 and aligned with the Third Cycle of the European Higher Education Area, the program represents the highest level of academic inquiry, strategic thinking, and independent research.

The Doctorate in Sustainable Tourism Management addresses the environmental, socio-cultural, and economic complexities of modern tourism systems. It enables candidates to conduct advanced research on sustainable destination governance, climate-resilient tourism models, responsible hospitality leadership, community-based tourism development, heritage preservation, tourism economics, ESG integration, and policy innovation within global tourism frameworks.

The academic structure consists of seven modules, designed to ensure methodological excellence and sector-specific depth:

  • Four research-focused modules dedicated to advanced research design, philosophy of science, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, academic publishing strategies, and research impact evaluation.

  • Two general modules strengthening strategic leadership, sustainability governance, global tourism policy analysis, ethics, innovation management, and institutional transformation.

  • One specialized module in Sustainable Tourism Management, focusing on sustainable destination planning, eco-tourism systems, climate adaptation strategies, sustainable hospitality operations, digital transformation in tourism, and long-term resilience frameworks.

The program culminates in a substantial original research project supported by structured research activities, enabling candidates to contribute meaningful academic and professional insights that advance sustainable tourism theory and practice.

With a minimum duration of 18 months, the program offers flexibility, allowing participants to extend their study period when necessary to balance research commitments with professional responsibilities.

This doctorate study program is particularly suitable for tourism executives, destination planners, sustainability directors, hospitality leaders, policy advisors, consultants, and academic researchers seeking to influence sustainable transformation at institutional, national, and global levels.

By integrating academic rigor, interdisciplinary sustainability science, and advanced tourism management strategy, the Doctorate in Sustainable Tourism Management prepares graduates to become thought leaders and high-level advisors capable of shaping resilient, ethical, and future-oriented tourism systems.
