The Doctorate in Sustainability and Future Economy Strategy (International Focus) is a 100% research-based doctorate study program designed for professionals, researchers, and forward-thinking decision-makers who want to explore the changing relationship between sustainability, economic transformation, innovation, and long-term strategic development. This doctorate study program is suited to individuals who are interested in advanced research and critical analysis related to how future economies may be shaped by environmental responsibility, social priorities, technological change, and evolving global strategies.

The program is academically positioned at a level comparable to ISCED level 8 and EQF level 8. ISCED, the International Standard Classification of Education, is a global framework used to classify levels of education in a clear and internationally comparable way. EQF, the European Qualifications Framework, is a European reference system that helps compare qualifications based on learning outcomes, complexity, and academic depth. At this level, learners are expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge, original thinking, strong independent research ability, and the capacity to contribute meaningful insights to academic and professional discussions. The program is also comparable to the third cycle of European higher education.

This doctorate study program is developed for those who wish to examine how sustainability is influencing the structure of future economies, public policy, institutional development, responsible investment, innovation planning, and international strategy. The concept of the future economy includes not only financial and industrial transformation, but also wider questions related to resilience, green transition, circular thinking, social responsibility, resource efficiency, and sustainable growth. As global systems continue to adapt to environmental pressure, digital transformation, and changing expectations from institutions and society, advanced research in this field is becoming increasingly relevant.

The structure of the program includes 7 modules designed to support advanced academic development and research capacity. Four modules are research-related, helping participants strengthen their understanding of research design, methodology, analytical thinking, and academic writing. Two modules are general modules, supporting broader doctoral-level learning and interdisciplinary reflection. One module is focused specifically on the study field, allowing learners to engage deeply with sustainability and future economy strategy as a specialized area of advanced research. The program also includes thesis and research activities, encouraging participants to build substantial, original, and academically meaningful work throughout their study journey.

The normal minimum duration of the program is 18 months or more, while also allowing flexibility for participants who wish to extend their study period based on their professional responsibilities, personal commitments, or research needs. This flexibility makes the program especially suitable for international learners who are seeking a serious and adaptable research pathway.

The international focus of the program reflects the reality that sustainability and economic transformation are not limited to one market or one region. Questions related to climate strategy, sustainable development, responsible governance, long-term competitiveness, economic resilience, and future-oriented policy are relevant across countries and sectors. For this reason, the program encourages comparative thinking, critical reflection, and research with international relevance.

Overall, this doctorate study program provides an advanced academic platform for those who want to contribute to the understanding of sustainability and the strategic direction of future economies. It is designed for learners who aim to produce thoughtful, research-based work in a field that is becoming increasingly important for institutions, industries, and societies worldwide.
