This doctorate study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for senior professionals, researchers, policymakers, and global health leaders who seek to advance mental health systems at population level through rigorous scientific inquiry and strategic policy development. The Doctorate in Public Health – Global Mental Health is academically positioned at a level equal to EQF Level 8 and aligned with the third cycle of the European Higher Education framework.

Mental health has emerged as a defining global health priority, shaped by social inequality, migration, humanitarian crises, conflict, economic instability, and rapid digital transformation. Addressing these challenges requires advanced research capacity, systems-level thinking, cross-cultural understanding, and the ability to translate evidence into sustainable public health strategies. This program is structured to cultivate independent researchers capable of shaping global mental health policy and strengthening health systems worldwide.

The academic framework consists of seven modules that ensure depth, rigor, and scholarly independence. Four modules focus on advanced research methodology, research philosophy, complex data analysis, epidemiological modeling, qualitative and mixed-methods research, and academic publishing. These modules prepare candidates to design and conduct original research that contributes meaningfully to the global mental health evidence base.

Two general modules strengthen high-level competencies in global health governance, ethics, policy analysis, health systems evaluation, sustainable development, and leadership in public health environments. One specialized module focuses directly on Global Mental Health, exploring mental health epidemiology, cross-cultural psychiatric frameworks, community-based intervention models, humanitarian mental health response, stigma reduction strategies, health equity, and integration of mental health into primary care systems.

The program culminates in a comprehensive thesis and structured research activities, where candidates conduct an original investigation addressing a contemporary global mental health challenge. Through this process, participants demonstrate advanced analytical capability, theoretical contribution, and the ability to generate policy-relevant findings that influence international health agendas.

With a minimum duration of 18 months and flexibility for extension, the program is designed for experienced professionals balancing leadership responsibilities with academic advancement. It is particularly suited for public health strategists, senior mental health practitioners, international development experts, NGO leaders, policy advisors, and researchers aiming to shape global mental health systems at institutional and governmental levels.

Graduates of this doctorate study program are prepared to contribute to ministries of health, international organizations, research institutes, humanitarian agencies, universities, and global policy networks. They develop the expertise to design evidence-based interventions, evaluate population-level mental health programs, influence regulatory reform, and promote equitable access to mental health services across diverse global contexts.

The Doctorate in Public Health – Global Mental Health represents an advanced research journey dedicated to transforming mental health systems, strengthening global resilience, and advancing sustainable public health innovation.
