This doctorate study program is a fully research-based academic pathway designed for senior professionals, researchers, and strategic leaders in the global maritime and shipping industry. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 8 and aligned with the 3rd European cycle, the program is dedicated to generating original research that advances knowledge, policy, and innovation within maritime economics, port governance, shipping finance, and international logistics systems.

With a minimum duration of 18 months and flexible extension options, the program accommodates experienced professionals who seek to combine high-level research with ongoing executive or academic responsibilities.

The academic framework consists of seven structured modules, including:

  • Four advanced research modules focusing on doctoral-level research design, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, maritime data analytics, policy analysis, and publication strategies in international academic and industry journals.

  • Two general modules addressing strategic leadership, global regulatory systems, sustainability governance, risk management, and international trade dynamics.

  • One specialized module in Maritime and Shipping Management, covering advanced maritime economics, global shipping markets, port management systems, marine insurance and finance, chartering strategies, international maritime law, digital transformation in shipping, smart ports, decarbonization strategies, and maritime cybersecurity.

The program culminates in comprehensive thesis and research activities, enabling candidates to contribute original and impactful research to contemporary challenges such as green shipping corridors, climate adaptation in maritime transport, global supply chain resilience, maritime policy reform, digital freight ecosystems, and emerging trade routes.

This doctorate study program prepares graduates to serve as high-level advisors, maritime policy experts, academic researchers, executive strategists, and leaders within shipping corporations, port authorities, international maritime organizations, logistics conglomerates, and global trade institutions. The research-intensive design ensures that participants not only analyze complex maritime systems but also shape the future direction of global shipping and maritime governance.
