This doctorate study program is an advanced, research-intensive academic pathway designed for scholars and professionals who seek to generate original knowledge on the historical evolution and contemporary dynamics of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. It provides a rigorous intellectual framework for examining state formation, governance systems, regional integration, socio-economic transformation, and geopolitical developments within the Arabian Gulf context.
The program is 100% research based and positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 8, corresponding to the third European cycle. It is structured for individuals prepared to conduct independent, high-level research and contribute meaningful scholarly work that meets international academic standards.
The academic structure consists of seven modules: four research-related modules dedicated to advanced research design, qualitative and quantitative methodologies, academic writing, and scholarly publication; two general modules that strengthen interdisciplinary analysis, research ethics, and strategic academic competencies; and one specialized module focused specifically on History and GCC studies. The program also includes thesis and research activities that enable participants to produce substantial and original academic contributions aligned with global scholarly expectations.
This doctorate study program encourages deep exploration of themes such as the historical development of Gulf states, institutional transformation, regional diplomacy, energy politics, economic diversification, cultural heritage, security frameworks, and the GCC’s role in international relations. Participants critically analyze archival materials, policy documents, regional data, and historical sources to construct evidence-based research that contributes to both academic scholarship and policy discourse.
The duration of the program is +18 months. While a minimum study period applies, participants benefit from flexible progression and may extend the study timeline according to the scope of their research and professional commitments.
