This doctorate study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for senior policymakers, disaster risk specialists, humanitarian leaders, researchers, and institutional strategists seeking to generate original and high-impact research in disaster risk reduction, crisis governance, resilience systems, and sustainable recovery. Positioned at a level equal to EQF Level 8 and aligned with the third European cycle, the program emphasizes advanced theoretical frameworks, interdisciplinary analysis, and independent scholarly contribution within complex and high-risk environments.
With a duration of +18 months (minimum duration with flexible extension options), the program provides a rigorous yet adaptable research structure that enables candidates to conduct in-depth investigations while maintaining professional or leadership responsibilities in governmental, international, or humanitarian institutions.
The academic structure consists of seven modules, including:
Four research-focused modules dedicated to advanced research design, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, disaster risk modeling, geospatial analysis, data-driven decision frameworks, policy evaluation, and doctoral-level academic writing and publication standards.
Two general modules addressing global governance systems, climate change adaptation, environmental policy, public health systems, crisis leadership, sustainable development frameworks, and international humanitarian law.
One specialized module in Disaster Management, focusing on disaster risk reduction strategies, emergency preparedness systems, climate-related hazards, resilience planning, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, post-disaster recovery and reconstruction models, and technological innovation in early warning and response systems.
Thesis and research activities forming the core academic component, enabling candidates to conduct original, independent research addressing contemporary global challenges in disaster prevention, mitigation, crisis response, and long-term resilience building.
This doctorate study program prepares candidates to contribute at the highest levels of disaster policy development, institutional leadership, international humanitarian coordination, and academic scholarship. It develops the capacity to critically evaluate risk governance systems, design evidence-based resilience strategies, and influence sustainable disaster management frameworks at national and global levels.
Graduates are positioned to shape disaster risk policies, lead resilience initiatives, contribute to international research networks, and advance knowledge in crisis and disaster management through research-driven innovation.
