This doctorate study program is a 100% research-based academic pathway designed for scholars, senior professionals, policymakers, and academic leaders who seek to make an original and meaningful contribution to the field of Childhood and Youth Studies. Positioned at a study level equal to EQF Level 8 and aligned with the Third Cycle of the European Higher Education Area, the program represents the highest level of academic specialization and independent research.

The Doctorate in Childhood and Youth Studies critically examines the social, cultural, political, psychological, educational, and global dimensions shaping the lives of children and young people. It approaches childhood and youth not only as developmental stages, but as complex social constructs influenced by governance systems, economic transformations, digital environments, migration patterns, inequality, and international child rights frameworks.

The program encourages advanced theoretical engagement, interdisciplinary dialogue, and evidence-based policy analysis. Doctoral candidates are expected to explore contemporary challenges such as youth participation and civic engagement, child protection systems, inclusive education, digital childhoods, youth transitions to adulthood, global disparities, and sustainable youth development strategies.

The academic structure consists of seven modules, including:

  • Four research-focused modules dedicated to advanced research design, epistemology, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, academic publishing, and scholarly impact.

  • Two general doctoral-level modules aimed at strengthening leadership in research, critical theory, and interdisciplinary analysis.

  • One specialized module focused specifically on advanced topics in Childhood and Youth Studies, addressing global debates, policy frameworks, and emerging research trends.

In addition, candidates undertake comprehensive research activities and the development of an original doctoral thesis, contributing new knowledge to the discipline.

With a minimum duration of 18 months, the program offers flexibility, allowing candidates to extend their study period in accordance with professional, academic, and personal commitments. This structure makes the program particularly suitable for experienced professionals, researchers, academics, and leaders seeking to influence policy, education systems, social institutions, and international frameworks concerning children and youth.

Graduates of this doctorate study program are equipped to assume leadership roles in academia, research institutes, international organizations, governmental agencies, NGOs, and policy development bodies. The program cultivates advanced analytical capacity, scholarly independence, ethical research practice, and the ability to shape evidence-informed strategies that positively impact children and young people worldwide.
